That’s exactly what Hydro-Québec faced during the busy 2024/2025 winter. Older chargers absorbed almost all the traffic. On paper, it looked like the network was failing, even though new capacity had just been added.

From Statkraft’s Mer merging with Eviny Fast Charging in the Nordics, to Powerdot acquiring InstaVolt’s network in Spain and Portugal and volenergy AG taking over bp's locations in Austria, M&A activity across Europe is picking up pace.The underlying driver is simple: public charge point utilisation has stayed largely flat. Infrastructure rollouts have matched EV sales step-for-step, leaving operators with capacity that needs to be commercialised rather than continuously expanded.

Volta focuses on high-traffic retail spots, such as supermarkets and malls, throughout Czechia, Slovakia, and Poland, with new expansions into Serbia and Montenegro. Their goal is ambitious: 1,000 charging stations by 2030.
